About the Shows

The Venue

Angels Camp, also known as City of Angels and formerly Angel's Camp, Angels, Angels City, Carson's Creek and Clearlake, is the only incorporated city in Calaveras County, California

Mountain Aire, a series of multi-band shows with that signature "Aire" spelling, were held at the fairgrounds from 1974 to 1987. They became a June tradition in Northern California - an annual rite of musical passage and a post-Woodstock reassertion of rock music's communal nature.

Bill Barr, who founded Mountain Aire as owner of Modesto's Rock 'N Chair Productions, sold "everything" - name, merchandising, poster rights, etc. - to Bill Graham Presents in 1988. BGP subsequently became Live Nation's property.

Dick Dixon About the Poster (June 4, 2022)

Poster artist Arlene Owseichik began working for the Fillmore in 1985, when it was about to be re-opened under the leadership of Bill Graham and his company Bill Graham Presents. For the next two decades Owseichik first served as art director and then creative director after Bill passed away in 1991 and the company ownership continued to change hands several times, ultimately becoming a part of Live Nation, the world’s largest concert promotion company. Since 2006 she has been the head of her own company, Big Picture Design.

Set against a tie-dye background the jumping frog is a reference to an old Mark Twain story, while the lightning bolt skull below it originated from a need for an easily identifiable symbol that could be stenciled on the Grateful Dead's gear when it was jammed in with other boxes and cases in backstage areas.
